Portlaoise pizzeria closes after sexual messages allegedly sent to woman who ordered a pizza

A Portlaoise pizzeria is closing temporarily pending an investigation into an allegation that sexual messages were sent to one of its female customers.

Mizzoni’s Pizza issued an online statement on Wednesday night announcing that it is closing the Portlaoise franchise with immediate effect.

“We have received allegations of offenses and serious misconduct and are conducting an internal formal investigation. Due to the seriousness of said allegations we today made the decision to withdraw our services which has forced the shop to close,” Mizzoni’s stated.

The company said the closure was temporary and they asked members of the public and social media users not to target their staff or customers.

“Mizzoni’s Pizza head office have an experienced Franchisee and his team who will reopen Portlaoise. We expect it to reopen in about three weeks,” the company stated.

The Leinster Express/Laois Live contacted Portlaoise Gardaí who confirmed a complaint had been made in relation to the matter.

“We ask that members of the public and social media users refrain from targeting Mizzoni’s Pizza staff, customers, or anyone involved in the ongoing investigation. This is a serious matter, and it is also an isolated incident to Portlaoise,” Mizzoni’s said.

“We appreciate the community’s understanding as we prioritise safety and a thorough, fair investigation for all involved,” the statement concluded.
