Residents in Portarlington are being asked to get in touch with the local group trying to re-establish a text alert as part of the local efforts to tackle crime.
The Portarlington Community Development Association or Love Port is working on the project but needs the community's involvement especially from housing estates.
"We at Love Portarlington are working very hard in the background to get the Portarlington Text Alert back up and running. We are looking to see what estates have Residents Committees," the say.
The PCDA ask people to ring the office on 0578608395.
They plan to relaunch the service in August or possibly early September.
The initiative has the full backing of the Gardaí.
"Great work from Love Portarlington to get Portarlington Text Alert back up and running. Text Alert is a means for An Garda Síochána to get information out to communities," says the Laois Offaly Garda Division.
The guards add that no personal information is provided to An Garda Síochána.
