Laois County Council will reopen the Portlaoise to Mountmellick Road this weekend to facilitate the Tullamore Show.

The N80 between Portlaoise and Mountmellick had been closed for improvement works since mid July.

However, due to the large volume of visitors and exhibitors expected at the Tullamore Show this weekend, the council has decided to reopen the N80 between Portlaoise and Mountmellick from 4pm this Friday, August 11.

The Tullamore Show is Ireland’s premiere National Livestock show attracting, on average, 60,000 visitors to Co Offaly every August.

Although it is a one day show, the livestock and exhibitors all need to get to the show prior to its opening on Sunday, August 13 and Laois County Council has decided to open the road to ease access to the site outside Tullamore Show at the Butterfield Estate.

The council said the road closure will be reinstated on Monday, August 14 at 8 am in order to resume pavement improvement works. Diversions will also resume on Monday morning.
