Laois Offaly Gardaí are advising motorists to slow down and take care on the roads in the freezing foggy conditions.
“Its extremely foggy out there this morning with freezing fog being reported in many areas. With very low temperatures ice is also been reported on our roads. Please slow down out there and allow plenty of time for your commute or travel,” gardaí stated.
They issued tips to motorists which including to slow down and increase the distance from the vehicle in front, use dipped headlights and front and rear fog lights, if fitted and remember to switch off fog lights when visibility improves.
Motorists are being asked to keep a sharp lookout for pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists and not to blindly follow the vehicle in front – it may leave the road for whatever reason.
“If you have to stop, activate your hazard warning lights,” gardai added.
The warning comes as a Met Éireann freezing fog warning comes into place this afternoon.
