A Councillor called for action to fix the sides of a road that are being ‘washed away’ as he fears there will be an accident.

Independent Cllr Ben Brennan asked in a motion “that Laois County Council look for more money to repair both sides of the road on the R430 from Graiguecullen to Tolerton and R431 to Crettyard”.

“All the sides of the road is being washed away,” said Cllr Brennan. He said it was an 80km zone and if someone drove into the edge of the road “there is going to be an accident”.

Senior Executive Engineer, Tom Drennan said  “Laois County Councils Municipal District roads staff will carry out a Pavement Survey Index Survey to determine the R431 and R430 roads rating and condition and will carry out any repairs where necessary. Extent of repairs is subject to Laois County Councils regional road discretionary allocation from the Department of Transport.”

The motion was seconded by Independent Cllr Aisling Moran at the monthly meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District.

According to the latest progress report from the February Municipal District meeting, pothole and patching repairs were carried out at Timahoe on the R426, Money Lower, Cremorgan, Garryglass, Orchard, Fossy Upper, Aghoney, Ballyteskin, Bush Hill, Gracefield, Shanragh, Ballintlea, Ballyadams, Rosbran, Graigue Ballylinan, The Cuts, Ballyhide, Hollymount, Shrule, Ballyharmon, The Strand, Bilboa, Killabban, Ballinagar, Barrowhouse, Whitebog, Wolfhill, Coornariska, Rossmore, Springhill, Knockbeg, Doonane, Fairymount, Cappanafeacle, Kellyville, Ballintubbert, Tail Lane Corrig Inchaycooley Rathmore Road, the Heath, Old Pound WoodBrook, Ballyrider Park, Jamestown, Courtwood, Kilrory, Vicarstown to Stradbally Park upper and Lower and Killenard.
