A Laois village must wait until next year for safety works to be carried out on a road entering the village.
Serious road safety issues on the L1036 at Tinnakill in Camross were raised at the Borris-in-Ossory / Mountmellick MD on Wednesday, March 11.
At the meeting, Councillor Conor Bergin requested Laois County Council to address the safety concerns, particularly speeding, on the road entering the village of Camross "to protect local residents and road users."
The Fine Gael councillor told the council he brought the issue to their attention before and argued that signs and fresh road markings would be sufficient.
Laois County Council told Cllr Bergin that if the issue is speed, the enforcement of speed limits is a matter for An Garda Síochána and it should be raised with them.

However, the Area Office will consider the location for the low cost road safety scheme. Although the next round of submissions for this scheme won't be until 2027.
Problems with a bridge on that stretch of road were also highlighted by Cllr Bergin, who explained that the bridge experiences flooding in heavy rain and so there is a lot of debris along it.
He asked that the trees near it be trimmed and the debris cleared in the interest of safety. Cllr Bergin acknowledged this too may be for departmental funding next year.
