Laois Sports Partnership to host Women in Sport week

Laois Sports Partnership Women in Sport Week 2023 is from Monday 6th March until Sunday the 12th of March 2023. Laois Sports Partnership have a number of plans for this week including delivering programmes, interactive workshops and sharing important information for women in sport.

They are hosting two workshops; 1. Coaching Teenage Girl’s Workshop and 2. Training and the Female Cycle. This coaching teenage girl’s workshop will be on Tuesday the 7th of March from 6:30 – 9:30pm, it is a 3-hour workshop delivered by a Sport Ireland Tutor. It is directed at coaches and those involved in coaching teenage girls. The workshop is €20 and you can book a place through Eventbrite.

The second workshop this week is called ‘Training and the Female Cycle’, which will be on Thursday the 9th Match from 8pm – 9pm. This is a FREE 1-hour workshop for teenage girls, places can be booked through Eventbrite. This is a 40-minute workshop followed by a Q&A. The workshop will be delivered by Dr. Kiera Ward and Ruth Kavanagh of Edufit.

Dr Kiera Ward is a sports scientist, exercise physiologist and active health researcher nationally and internationally. In this workshop, Kiera will explain how to get the best out of your performance by optimising your training around your menstrual cycle.

Ruth is a registered associate nutritionist (ANutr) and active health researcher. In this workshop, Ruth will share simple, practical, and evidence-based nutrition tips for optimal performance and recovery from training.

Along with the planned activities and courses for this week, they will also be sharing Q&A videos with some local female sporting hero’s. These hero’s range from recreational sports, providing opportunities for all to participate in sport and some elite female athletes across various sports.
