Laois Athletics Club rounds off 2023 indoor season with impressive medal haul

The curtain has come down on the 2023 indoor Track and Field season, but not without Emo Rath Athletic Club winning their fair share of the spoils between Leinster and National medals.

Under 15 athlete Cillin Hoey won double gold at Leinster. In the 60M hurdles, he was a comfortable winner, with a full second to spare over his rivals. Cillin also set a new Leinster Record in the triple jump. Unfortunately for Cillin the Triple Jump event is not held for u/15 athletes at National level. He ran a smart race in the heats, doing enough to qualify for the final. A slight break at the first asking left him having to hold in the blocks a little longer than he would have preferred. But once the gun went Cillin ran a fabulous race, knocking a full half second off his previous best he finished in 8.88 seconds. Unfortunately for Cillin the slower start meant he was pipped by eight hundredths of a second for first place. None-the-less a silver medal was just reward for the hard training he puts in and no doubt he will be in the mix when the outdoors come around.

Like Cillin, Chloe Keenan was also a winner in the 60M hurdles at Leinster in the Girls U/19 race. Unfortunately for Chloe the National finals clashed with Leaving Cert orals and she had to miss the event. She did however get to compete in the National U/19 Triple Jump where she recorded a new Personal Best to take third place and the bronze medal.

At Senior level, Eoin Keenan won the Leinster Senior Triple Jump and went on to become the Club's first National Senior medal winner when he took third place in the long jump.

Emo Rath AC is very proud of its three athletes named above, all Leinster Champions this year and all medal winners at their National Championships. We look forward to more medals to come in the outdoor season which they are now busy preparing for.

Training at Emo Rath AC is every Monday night at 6.30pm for our juvenile athletes and 6.00pm on Fridays and 11.15am on Sundays for our older athletes.
