Fresh from her first-place finish in the Long Jump at the European Games, St Abban's Ruby Millet has been chosen in the Irish U-23 squad for the European Championships.

Millet registered a season's best jump in Krakow with her jump of 6.33m propelling her into first-place and securing maximum points for Ireland. Team Ireland went on to win Division 3 at the Games.

Laois will have a second representative on the Irish team as Ava O'Connor from Emo will compete in the 3000m Steeplechase. O'Connor, who runs for the Tullamore Harriers club, comes into the European Championships off the back of her senior debut wearing the Irish vest in Krakow. She posted a time of 10:18:10 to finish third in Krakow.

The European U-23 Championships will be held in Espoo, Finland from July 13 until July 16.
