St Michael's Athletic Club in Portarlington headed to Tullamore at the weekend as they took part in the National Juvenile Track and Field Championships. Finn Craig was the only athlete representing S.M.A.C. on Saturday.
Finn took on the U-17 2000m Steeplechase on a very hot afternoon. A superb effort of 6:57mins was enough to secure a silver medal for Finn.
The National B Track and Field championships then took place the following day. S.M.A.C. had two athletes competing in the middle distance events, Hanna Luttrel in the 600m and Siobhán O'Loughlin in the 800m.
Hanna was in the first heat of the u13 600m. She started well and got into a good position after 100m, and maintained both her position and pace for the full 600m. Although it was slightly outside of her PB, Hanna put in a strong run and has something to build on moving forward.
Siobhán was next up in the u16 800m. Siobhán had a great start keeping with the pack and looked really strong throughout the race. She put herself in a good position to make a move but was blocked going into the second lap. This didn't deter her and she pushed on to get a great 4 second PB, finishing in 2:39min.
