IN PICTURES: Laois Public Participation Network hosts Sports Capital Grant Workshop

Laois PPN in collaboration with Laois County Council hosted a “Sports Capital Grant 2023 Workshop”. The event followed the success of last year’s workshop which supported Community Groups across Laois and resulted in a record number of successful Groups receive a record €4 million in Laois. The Sports Capital Grant supported successful applicants for projects such as Astroturf, Ball Walls, Walking Tracks, LED lighting, Clubhouse refurbishment and gym equipment.

The Sports Capital Grant 2023 is now open for applications. Laois PPN in collaboration with Laois County Council hosted this Workshop to support the clubs with their 2023 application. The workshop took place in the Council Chamber of Laois County on Tuesday 15th August. There was 50+ Community Groups in attendance representing Sports Clubs, Community Centres, Community Development Associations and Schools. Sports Clubs attending the workshop showed the wide variety of sports active in Laois including GAA, basketball, rugby, soccer, swimming pools, tennis clubs and athletics. There were Community Groups representing all three Municipal Districts in attendance. 

The Workshop was presented by Ann Marie Maher, Sports & Leisure Laois County Council. Ann Marie Maher gave a detailed presentation, sharing her knowledge and expertise with the groups. Ann Marie Maher said “The Sports Section of Laois County Council are there to help and advise Community Groups with their Sports Capital Grant 2023 applications. If any groups need support or guidance, please contact sports@laoiscoco.ie.”

Martina O’Moore of Clann Credo gave a presentation on how Clann Credo could support groups with bridging finance and additional funding if required.

Dan Bergin, Laois PPN Co-Ordinator said “Laois PPN wish to thank the large number of Community Groups that attended the workshop. As the main link between the Local Authority and Community Groups in Laois, Laois PPN were delighted to organise the Sports Capital Grant Workshop in collaboration with Laois County Council to support groups in Laois with their applications. Laois PPN wish groups every success with their application.”

Laois PPN consists of 650+ Member Groups from the Community, Social Inclusion and Environmental Pillars. All groups registered with Laois PPN are given the opportunity to attend Laois PPN events. Any group wishing to join Laois PPN can do so by completing the application on the Laois PPN website www.laoisppn.ie
