'En garde' new Laois fencing club set to open

Mr.Child Fencing Club is set to open its doors this weekend to the people of Laois who are interested in the sport of fencing.

Founded by Meng Wang, the fencing club's base is located in Kildare town since they opened their doors in 2023. The club will be based out of St Mary's Hall Portlaoise. Meng has previously held fencing training sessions in Portlaoise as he hosted the Fencing for Women program which is a program organised by Fencing Ireland. To date, the club has around 15 members.

Speaking to the Leinster Express/Laois Live, Meng had this to say, "I have competed in fencing competitions as well as being a coach for over 10 years. Since moving out of Dublin, I realised that not much fencing happens outside Dublin. My goal is to bring the sport out of the capital."

The first formal open day for the club takes place this coming Sunday, January 14 in St Mary's Hall Portlaoise from 1.30pm with everyone welcome. More information can be found on the club's website.
