IN PICTURES: Laois athletes shine at Leinster Relays and Combined Events in Carlow

Busy weekend of action brings joy and silverware for Laois athletics club

St Abban’s A.C. enjoyed a highly successful weekend at SETU Carlow, competing in both the Leinster Juvenile Relays and Combined Events Championships, with medals won across multiple age groups. See full report under picture.

At Saturday’s Leinster Juvenile Relays, the club brought home seven sets of medals. Gold went to the Boys U12 team of Liam, Tom, Ruben and Leo, while silver medals were won by the Girls U9 (Ciara, Marnie, Beatrice, Hannah), Girls U14 (Roisín, Sophie, Eabha, Faye), Girls U15 (Zoe, Faye, Roisin, Lily), and Girls U18 (Cara, Rachel, Aayliah, Elaine). Bronze medals were secured by the Girls U12 (Meabh, Ava, Penelope, Shana) and the Boys U17 4x400m team (Kalem, Will, Eoghan Mitchell, Eoin Mulkerrins).

Several other relay teams also competed strongly, with many narrowly missing out on medals. Full results include top-six finishes for teams across U10 to U16, showing the club’s strong depth and development.

On Sunday, four athletes won medals at the Leinster Combined Events. Ava Brophy (Girls U11), Penelope McMahon (Girls U12), Liam Doyle (Boys U12), and Cara English (Girls U18) all won gold in their respective quadathlon and pentathlon categories. Other notable finishes included Leo Smith (4th, Boys U12), Roisin Kearney (4th, Girls U15), and Jack Ramsbottom (8th, Boys U13).

Meanwhile, Stage 2 of the Fit4Life Summer League took place in Killeen, attracting 190 participants. Kristian Redmond was first home in 13:22, with Sinead Fitzpatrick the first female finisher (4th overall) in 14:08. The next race is set for Rossmore on Wednesday, June 4 at 7.30pm.
