Dualtagh Unuvar after the Thoroughbred Marathon in County Kildaree
A Portarlington basketball player has completed an extraordinary fundraising challenge by running the Thoroughbred Marathon in County Kildare all while dribbling a basketball for the full 42.2 kilometres.
Dualtagh Unuvar, a dedicated member of Kestrels Basketball Club since 2017, took on the unique and gruelling task to raise funds for the club he has called home for the past eight years. His efforts captured the imagination of supporters, raising €1,100 through 56 donations, surpassing his initial target of €1,000.
Speaking through his GoFundMe page ahead of the marathon, Dualtagh said he was inspired by the hard work and dedication that goes into running Kestrels: “After winning the MABB League and Top 4 with the senior team this year, I figured it was my turn to give back to the club that means so much to me.”
The funds raised will go towards supporting the continued development of Kestrels Basketball Club, which has become a vital part of the sporting landscape in Portarlington.
