Double gold in the 400m finals for Daniel Downey and Reuben Plunkett

Portlaoise Athletic Club enjoyed a successful weekend at the Leinster Juvenile Indoors held in Athlone. The club secured two gold medals on Saturday, highlighting the strength of its young athletes. In the U18 400m boys final, Daniel Downey claimed gold in a new championship record, while Reuben Plunkett took gold in the U19 400m boys final. Read full report below first picture.

Other notable performances included U19 60m finalist Uchenna Okoroji, who finished sixth, and U17 boys 60m runner Joshua Osumah, who placed fourth. In the girls' events, Ava Shore finished seventh and Lucy Shore eighth in the U18 1500m final. Emilia Oluoha was eighth in the U17 girls long jump, and Polly Plunkett placed fifth in the U16 girls shot put. Blake Cullen finished sixth in the U16 boys 400m.
On Sunday, the younger athletes continued to perform well. Leah McDonald and Luke Flynn both placed fifth in the U12 girls and boys 600m finals, respectively, while Jack Burke finished sixth in the U12 boys shot put and seventh in the 60m hurdles heat. Daisy Flynn ran fifth in the U13 girls' 600m heat.
In the U14 girls events, Lily Walsh finished 18th in long jump and achieved new personal bests in the 800m (12th in heat) and 60m hurdles (fifth in heat), while Laura-Jane Phelan placed 26th in long jump and set new personal bests in the 800m (eighth in heat) and 60m hurdles.
Other strong performances included Polly Plunkett and Abigail Olaseni in the U16 girls 200m heats, placing fourth and fifth respectively with new personal bests. Amelia Oluoha ran a new personal best to finish fourth in the U17 girls' 200m heat. Joshua Osumah finished fifth in the U17 boys 200m final, Williams Akintola placed fifth in the U18 boys long jump final, and Reuben Plunkett finished fourth in the U19 boys 200m final. Uchenna Okoroji also set a new personal best in his 200m heat.
The club’s athletes demonstrated skill and determination across a range of track and field events, securing medals and personal bests throughout the two-day competition.
