With the theme "Cycling is for Everyone!" emphasising inclusivity, communities nationwide are hosting events throughout the week. Whether you represent a community group or are a member of the public that would like to celebrate cycling in your local area, everyone is welcome to take part.

Bike week events are co-ordinated by Laois County Council and delivered by community organisations and schools collaboration with support and funding provided from TFI and Department of Transport. During Bike Week there's something for everyone to enjoy.

How can I get involved?

You probably won't have to travel far to join a Bike Week event, as they're happening all across Co Laois.

Even if you don't own a bike or yours needs fixing, there are options available, including bike hire and maintenance workshops. Speaking at the launch of Laois’ Bike Week 2024, An Cathaoirleach of Laois County Council, Cllr. Pascal McEvoy commented that ‘there's no shortage of ways to take part’!

Alternatively, you might not even need your own bike, as some events offer bike rentals, ensuring plenty of options for everyone.

Highly anticipated events include The SVT Activity and Well Hub and Durrow Pedal Vintage festivals of cycling, alongside special occasions like Bike-to-Work Day, also known as Cycle on Wednesday, on May 15th, with many schools participating in cycle buses, facilitating children cycling to school.  If you haven’t been on a bike in a while, Healthy Laois and Laois County Council have even organised special ‘Get Back on your Bike’ classes during Bike week 2024!
