A happy group of Laois men are recovering after the weekend of their lives in New York representing the county in the St Patrick's Day parade.

Some 45 members of Timahoe Male Choir and supporters, all paying their own fares, flew over to take part in the historic parade.

After zooming to success with a performance at Electric Picnic, the lads marched, sang in many venues and got in some sightseeing, including a visit to Ellis Island.

The choir were full of divilment before they even left Ireland, with a special guest Enoch Burke on their bus to the airport.

"Well, we couldn’t leave him standing outside!" they quipped.

They recall the excitement in New York and back home.

"From NYC to Spink & Timahoe! What a moment kicking off the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in New York City! A huge honor to march alongside the Laois Association, flying the flag for home on one of the biggest stages in the world.

"Meanwhile, back in Spink and Timahoe, the pints were poured, the TVs were tuned in, and the support was loud and proud! And as for Bob on CNN—“What these guys lack in talent, they make up for in personality”... we’ll take that!  A day we’ll never forget!" they said after the parade.
The choir led by The Vows main man Damien Bowe, sang in several pubs, including a joyous impromptu performance in McSorley's. See the video here.
"Last night, we had the pleasure of an impromptu gig in one of NYC’s most legendary pubs—McSorley’s Old Ale House! Established in 1854, it’s the city’s oldest continuously operated saloon, with a history as rich as its ale. From Abe Lincoln to John Lennon, many have passed through these doors, and last night, the Timahoe Male Choir added our voices to its story.
A truly special experience in a place where history, music, and great craic go hand in hand!"
The lads were well prepared to meet and sing with the Naked Cowboy, all wearing their Timahoe jocks!
The choir also attended Mass in New York, with choir member Fr David Vard PP (centre below) assisting at the Mass.
They were honoured to give a special performance too at the American Irish Historical Society, singing the emotional Isle of Hope.
With an EP released for charity in February - see photos here -  it's fair to say that Timahoe Male Choir is making the most of their fame. Anyone who wants to sign up however must live in the parish of Timahoe, Stradbally or Vicarstown. Worth moving for.
