"Yesterday was all about wild garlic, fresh air, and curious minds!" Abbeyleix House and Farm posted to social media.
"We were delighted to welcome students from Heywood Community School for a hands-on foraging experience led by our Head of Kitchen Gardens, Kitty Scully—a true fountain of knowledge about wild food and sustainable growing.
"They also walked through history with Helen Roche, our Head Gardener, who shared tales of the estate’s past before introducing them to our majestic Old Oak and some of our four-legged residents.
"The day wrapped up with a well-earned feast in the Stable Yard – wild garlic soup, freshly baked bread, and a punchy pesto prepared by our chef, Oisín, who cooks and helps grow the ingredients. And, of course, there were belly rubs for our favourite farm companions, Ollie and Monkey.
"It is a perfect blend of nature, history, and food—just as we like it. A big SHOUT OUT to all the students who joined us yesterday!" the post read.
