Taking place on Friday January 16, students walked a combined 2,054 laps or 514km around their walking track.
"The children completely smashed their target of walking 208km as part of their sponsored walk to Croke Park and back home again," staff told the Leinster Express / Laois Live.
"What a lovely day it was for the school community as staff, children and parents teamed up to complete the challenge. The event was organised by the school Parents’ Association as one of their fundraising events and it was a huge success," they said.
"The children showed fantastic determination, resilience and team spirit throughout the day, and both staff and parents were so proud of them," they said.
The event took place on the new walking / running track that the school installed during the summer months.
"The track is proving to be a great addition to the school and offers so much in terms of fitness and wellbeing," the school stated.
Principal Michael McEvoy congratulated the children on the achievement and thanked the staff and parents involved for their contribution to the event.
"We are very lucky to have such a supportive Parents’ Association in the school and this is another example of the fantastic work they do," Mr McEvoy said.
"The active and fun nature of this event really caught the imagination of the children and our parent body which could be clearly seen in the turn-out today. Well done to all.
"Well done to all the pupils, parents and staff who helped make this such a special and successful event. It’s a day that will be remembered for a very long time," Mr McEvoy finished.
