Ballymorris Road in Portarlington
Laois County Council will include a stretch of the Ballymorris Road, Portarlington, on its list for resurfacing next year.
Independent Cllr Aidan Mullins requested the inclusion of the road at a recent meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District.
Cllr Mullins asked “that Laois County Council re-surface the stretch of Ballymorris Road in Portarlington from outside the new Ballymorris Green housing development to the opposite side of the railway bridge in the interest of road safety.”
“It is in poor condition, especially with the construction of the new housing” at the location, he said.
In response to the motion, Senior Executive Engineer, Philip McVeigh said: “This section of the Ballymorris Road is included on the draft multi-annual road surfacing programme.” He told Cllr Mullins that “we can put it on the 2025 list.”
Cllr Mullins also asked about the possibility of getting public lights along the stretch of road.
Fianna Fáil Cllr Paschal McEvoy welcomed the resurfacing plan.
“That road needs to be done. I’m delighted to see it in the 2025 programme of works,” he said.
