Portarlington's vital Meals on Wheels service has been boosted thanks to the charitable fundraising efforts of the area's athletics club.

The Portarlington Meals on Wheels have thanked St Michael’s Athletic Club and all who took part in the recent 5K Run/Walk, for their kind donation of €1,200 to the service in the Laois Offaly community.

"The Meals on Wheels appreciates all the donations they receive from the public. Over 11,000 meals were cooked and delivered in 2024. Over 80 people volunteer to deliver the meals three days a week," the Meals on Wheels said in note of thanks to the club published by the Leinster Express / Laois Live.

If you would like to be a deliverer please e-mail Ann Dunne at annmdun@hotmail.com.

The funds raised were presented by Aisling Stapleton, secretary of St Michael's AC, to Brendan Broderick & Rory Whelan from Port Meals on Wheels.
