Laois school musical scoops national awards

Pride of Portarlington: Coláiste Íosagáin wins big

Laois school musical scoops national awards

A Laois school has won three fantastic awards for their recent school musical.

Coláiste Iosagáin in Portarlington staged their performance of 'All Shook Up' in November 2024, and was nominated for over 20 categories in the Secondary School Stage Awards 2025.

The annual awards celebrate excellence in school musical productions across the country.

The broadway musical is inspired by Shakespeare's 'Twelfth Night' infused with music by Elvis Presley, with the school pulling off a fantastic production.

Ten members of staff and students took to The Fairways Hotel in Dundalk, Co. Louth on March 4 for the awards night.

“We are absolutely thrilled to receive these nominations,” said Principal Justin Brown.

“It’s a reflection of the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in the production. Our students have poured their hearts into this show, and to see their efforts recognised is truly special," Mr Brown said.

Luke Dunne won 1st Prize Gold Award for Best Male Comedy.

Ava Baker Doyle won a Bronze Award for Best Female co star Vocal.

Coláiste Íosagáin also won a Bronze Award for the Best Promotion of a Show.

"Huge congratulations to all our students - Matthew Ryan, Luke Dunne, Adam Brennan, Reuben Wardrop, Laura Slevin, Holly Glass, Ava Baker Doyle, Ava Murnaghan, Aoibhe Hennessy, Faith Kenny," Mr Brown said.

"Also a massive congratulations to our and staff members; Mr. Conor Mitchell, Ms Ailbhe Davis, Ms. Catherine Rafferty, Mr. Gavin Shortall, Mr. David O'Reilly & Ms Roxanne McGee," the principal finished.

These include Faith Kenny, Matthew Ryan, Adam Brennan, Ava Murnaghan, Ava Baker and Luke Dunne for best acting. Ava Hennessy, Ava Baker, and Matthew Ryan also received nominations for best vocals.
