Pedesitrian and cycle access to Portarlington Train Station to be upgraded.

Laois and Offaly train commuters should factor in the possibility of delays in their trips to and from Portarlington's Train Station due to roadworks likely to take place in the coming months.

Laois County Council has put the public on notice of its plans for traffic calming and active travel works on the Station Road which is also the main access road for two schools and Portarlington GAA pitch.

The local authority says it intends to install the following:

  • Two zebra crossings
  • Speed ramps
  • Raised pedestrian crossings on side roads
  • Tactile paving
  • Drainage & associated works.

Apart from the train station, the Presentation Primary School is on Station Rd. Scoil Phadraig BNS is located on Canal Rd which is accessed via Station Rd.

McCann Park, Portarlington GAA club grounds, is also on Canal Road which is accessed from Station Road.

Detailed drawings and details of the works will be on display through April by appointment at Laois County Council HQ in Portlaoise or online at https://consult.laois.ie/en/browse
