A wonderful and totally free community fun day is returning to a Laois Offaly border town.

Portarlington Lions Club has an action packed family entertainment day planned for Sunday, August 24.

The fun kicks off at 2pm on Foxcroft Street and lasts all afternoon with a dizzying range of events.

Get ready to enjoy live music from Portarlington Concert Band, Comhaltais, Burbage's school of dancing, bouncing castles, Tug of war, kiddies races, bouncy castles, bubble machines, water balloons and a sand pit.

There is also a new sensory tent, outdoor board games, treasure hunt, children's tattoos, a kiddies disco and a crafts table.

The club are bringing in bales of hay to sit on to add to the fun end-of-summer vibe.

Portarlington Lions Club President Therese Doody spoke to the Leinster Express / Laois Live.

"We have been preparing for this day for months, and every year it gets bigger and better. This year it is more inclusive with the sensory tent.  We are delighted to welcome everyone from the town and local community," she said.

The fun day has permanently moved from the People's Park, she confirmed.

"Last year it was closed but now with new equipment there it is too small. We have more space in Foxcroft Street including free parking," she said.

Ms Doody especially thanks all their local sponsors and all who support the club throughout the year.

The public are invited to bring along a picnic and blankets for their comfort.

The club also has access to the men's shed toilets this year. Children are to be supervised at all times.

The afternoon lasts until 5pm and takes place at Foxcroft Street Eircode R32 P786. It is held in association with Portarlington Credit Union.

Portarlington Lions Club members are made up of local business people who fundraise money all to give back to deserving people in their community. Their last big fundraiser was a tractor run in March, see the gallery here.
