Portarlington Meals on Wheels had to suspend its home deliver service due to the Status Red weather warning but are planning to recommence this weekend.

More 6,600 meals were cooked and delivered by the Portarlington Social Services in 2017. Services were halted this week by Storm Emma and beast from the east.

The Secretary is Ann Bourke Dunne. She said normal deliveries on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday were impacted by the blizzard.

"We didn't do anything yesterday (Thursday) but we are trying now to do something for tomorrow (Saturday). We have had people offering to help.

"I was able to contact all our recipients or there families to make sure they were ok.

"One lady cooked dinner for two days for one older lady who lives in an isolated area. She got her son to bring it to her. I had been worried about this lady as she has no phone to contact her," said the secretary.

She said they are hoping to deliver Saturday.
