Appreciation night organised for local man in Laois community

Terence Lawlor.

People in Portarlington have organised an appreciation night for a local man who is at the heart and soul of the community.

The Terry Lawlor Appreciation Night has been organised to give back to Mr Lawlor who voluntarily cleans the streets of the town despite being ill recently.

He is a well known character in Portarlington and people in the area cannot praise him enough for the work he does.

Terence, who was Portarlington Person of the Year in 2015, picks up litter and cleans the town every day in his own time. He often goes out in the early hours of the morning before businesses open to clean the streets before other people start their day.

In 2017, Mr Lawlor receive a dog fouling fine but it was dropped after outrage from the community who knew that he had cleaned up after the dog.

Since then, a huge amount of people in Portarlington now know about the work Mr Lawlor does and want to give back to him.

The Terry Lawlor Appreciation Night will take place on Saturday, October 6 from 9pm at The Anvil Inn in Portarlington.

There will be a barbeque and music on the night from The Fanzines and DJ Peter McEvoy. It promises to be a great night with a monster raffle.

Tickets to the event are €5 and the money will go towards a gift for Mr Lawlor to thank him for his dedication and hard work in the community.
