Portarlington Tidy Towns needs you!

Portarlington residents are being invited to join a fresh attack on the “blight” of litter in the Laois Offaly town, in a new weekly clean-up organised by the local Tidy Towns group.

“People of Portarlington we need your help. Litter is a blight on our landscape, it impacts our quality of life, economic development and it eventually ends up in our waterways and oceans,” the group has stated on its Facebook page.

It is launching a new an End to Littering initiative in the town this Saturday morning November 17 at 11am. A clean-up will start out from Bracklone Street at the junction to Canal road and continue right up to the town square.

The winter clean-ups will continue in different designated areas every second Saturday for an hour's work, stay updated on the Portarlington area notes in the Leinster Express print edition, or the Portarlington Tidy Towns facebook page.

“If you have a spare hour to help, we would love to see you. Let's make Portarlington a cleaner place to live. Love where you live,” the group said.

Gloves, litter pickers and bags will be provided.
