Laois community donates hundres of shoeboxes to Team Hope

Veronica Doyle McCormack and Nicole Hynes of Portarlington Credit Union

The people of Portarlington have once again shown their generosity by supporting the Portarlington Credit Union shoebox collection for Team Hope.

Portarlington Credit Union is linked up with Team Hope again this year to help those less fortunate by taking part of the Christmas Shoebox Appeal.

Over 180 shoeboxes were collected containing items for men, women and children based on different age categories.

Items like toys, colouring books, toothbrushes, toiletries and chocolates have been placed into the boxes by local people so others in need will have a gift this Christmas.

They have been beautifully wrapped in festive paper and a donation of €4 has been given with each box.

The Credit Union has thanked Oakdale Nursing Home, Ar nOige Playschool, St Patricks BNS and each and every person for taking the time to put the boxes together.

Last year an incredible 5,430 shoeboxes were sent from Laois to Romania.  Team Hope is an Irish, Christian development aid charity, working with children, and through them, into their families and communities mainly across Eastern Europe, former Soviet Union and Africa.
