Traffic calming measures are to be installed at the Lea Road in Portarlington in the coming months.

Cllr Aidan Mullins raised the issue in a motion at the last Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District meeting.

He asked: “That Laois County Council give an update on the proposed traffic calming measures on Lea Road in Portarlington.”

In a written response, Senior Engineer at Roads Section Adrian Barrett said: “The Roads Design Section has prepared a design for traffic calming at Lea Road in Portarlington. Prices are being obtained from contractors for the delivery of the works. These works will be delivered in early 2023.”

Cllr Mullins said he had met with a roads engineer at the location and he hoped measures could go as far as Jamestown Engineering. “I will talk to Adrian about that,” he said.

“I will follow up with Adrian as it is badly needed,” he added.

Cllr PJ Kelly seconded the motion. “I hope that that would include the Jamestown area there, the industrial area,” he said.
