The St Patrick’s Day Committee is delighted to announce that the Portlaoise Parade is back for  2023.

Due to Covid, the Portlaoise committee has been unable to host a parade for the past three years, but they've now pressed the button on a parade and event that they say the community can look forward.

Numerous floats, music, entertainment, trade stands, Irish dancing and much, much more again on Friday, March 17.

The Parade will be followed by a Community Event on Main Street, Portlaoise involving Street acts, Irish Music, Trade Stands, Irish Dancing and much, much more.

Dominic Dunne is the Chairperson of St Patrick’s Day Committee. He's promising a big day out in the county town.

“This is going to be a great event and it will be a major boost financially to the town, but of course also great morale for everyone living in Portlaoise and the surrounding areas of Laois”, commented Mr Dunne.

A fundraising table quiz will also be held in Kavanagh’s Bar, Portlaoise on Friday 10th March to help raise funds for this event. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The committee thanks everyone involved in helping to ensure the parade will be a successful event, with particular thanks to Laois County Council.  The committee are also delighted that Laois Volunteer Centre will help in sourcing volunteers to help with a collection day as well as stewarding on the day of the parade.

To enter a float or to contact the committee with any queries, contact Chairperson Dominic Dunne at 0868312034 or Secretary, Pauline Flanagan at 0879984574.

The Parade will commence from Laois County Council at 12.30 pm on Friday, March 17 and going up the Main St (from the bottom to the top square) and is expected to finish at 2 pm.

The St Patrick’s Day committee consists of old and new members who meet weekly in Portlaoise Parish Centre.  The members include: Chairperson and Events Co-Ordinator, Dominic Dunne; Secretary, Pauline Flanagan; Treasurer Eugene McDonagh, Paul Downey MC, Christy Bannon MC, Frank Ward, PJ Kavanagh; Wayne Haslam, Cllr Catherine Fitzgerald and Noel Tuohy and will continue to meet leading up to the event in order to ensure maximum enjoyment and safety for all concerned.
