Construction of a new housing estate is underway in Portlaoise.
The new Sand Wood development will have 112 two, three and four bed houses.
The development will be in the Summerhill area of Portlaoise, near Holy Family Senior School.
London based developer Hollybrook are teaming up with Portlaoise's Hume Auctioneers for this project, with the project expected to finish in 2025. Construction company Boderg, an offshoot of Hollybrook ltd, are overseeing the work.
Along with 112 homes, Sand Wood promises a two storey 'neighbourhood centre', which will comprise of a retail unit, a creche and cycle storage.
Improvements to the travel infrastructure will also be included by introducing a new shared pedestrian/cycle area on the southern side of the site, and an open space with a combination of hard and soft landscaping.
The Sand Wood development is within walking distance from the centre of Portlaoise, less than an hour by car to Dublin.
This news is one of several reports from the Leinster Express/Laois Live on housing development in the Summerhill area.
Developers are calling the proposed houses "unique", with "attention to detail" given to the new neighbourhood.
