WATCH: Laois countryside plagued by illegal dumping

Shocking scenes of dumping in Portlaoise have been posted in a video on X.

The video was taken on August 1, and showed litter scattered around Bruders Bridge.

The bridge sits above an abandoned railway line between Togher and Clonminham, and is frequented by locals for its peaceful atmosphere.

X user @ThiarIsFearr uploaded the video, calling the incident "soul destroying".

"Hopefully these videos will help prevent further dumping at the site," the user told The Leinster Express / Laois Live.

"It's a wonderful spot for watching rabbits!" they said.

This is not the first incident of illegal dumping at the spot. In 2021, the same user posted a video of illegal dumping at Bruders Bridge, calling for Laois County Council to take action.

That year, the Council responded by installing a motion sensor device at the bridge. When triggered, the device plays an audio message warning people not to dump or litter.
