Upgrade works planned at Portlaoise hospital's psychiatry department

The HSE is planning to carry out upgrade works at the Department of Psychiatry at Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise and has just issued a tender. 


The work will include the renovation of the existing six bed ward and toilets and installation of new anti ligature fire doors.


The work, estimated to be valued at around €1.2million, will be carried out in four phases and the contract is for a six month period. 


"The nature of the works consists of, but not limited to, 12 areas of work," the tender states. 


"Upgrade anti-ligature works and installation of new anti ligature fire doors to the existing 6 bed ward, 2 x single bedroom and ensuites, 3 x WCs, 2 x bathrooms, 2 x shower rooms, installation of new wall and anti-ligature fire door and reconfiguration of courtyard within the Department of psychiatry, Midlands Regional Hospital, Portlaoise. 


"The works are to take place over 4 phases to limit disruption to ongoing services within the psychiatric Department: Phase 1 will involve the renovation of a 6 bed ward, WC and installation of new wall and door. Phase 2 will involve the renovation of 2 no.single rooms with ensuites in the male unit. New door to store room also the reconfiguration of 2 no. existing WC's. The renovation of shower room and bathroom. Phase 3  will involve the renovation of a bathroom, shower and 2 no. WCs. 


"Phase 4 will involve the renovation of Courtyard. This will be carried out in three separate phases."

The deadline for tenders is September 4, 2024 and details are available on the etenders website.
