RTÉ's Room to Improve Claire Irwin will be in Portlaoise next week to help launch Laois' Energy Awareness Week which runs from September 2 to September 6.

Laois County Council, in collaboration with Laois and Offaly Education and Training Board (LOETB) and the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI),  is behind the initiative. It is aimed at promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy for homes and businesses across County Laois. It is an education and awareness initiative for the communities of Laois.

Throughout the week, an NZEB and Retrofit mobile training rig will be stationed at the upper car park of Laois Shopping Centre, where energy experts will be available to provide free advice on home energy upgrades, solar panels, grants, and funding options.

On Tuesday, September 3, the event will be officially launched with a series of presentations by experts from LOETB, SEAI, and Claire Irwin of RTÉ's Room to Improve.

Key Highlights of the event are:

Homeowners: Learn about upgrading your home with retrofits, including attic insulation, LED lighting, and heat pumps.
Business Owners: Explore cost-saving measures like lighting upgrades and transitioning to renewable energy sources.
All Participants: Gain practical advice on how to improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and contribute to sustainability efforts while saving money.
Lending Institutions: AIB, Bank of Ireland, PTSB and People’s First Credit Union will be at the rig to inform and advise on green loan options.

"This initiative supports our collective goals of promoting sustainability, enhancing comfort, and making a positive environmental impact. For more details, you can follow us on Facebook and LinkedIn or simply stop by the mobile training rig between September 2 and 6 at Laois Shopping Centre," said a spokesperson for Laois County Council.
