Irish Rail to undertake works on Laois line after services were suspended

Investigation carried out on track between Portlaoise and Ballybrophy

Irish Rail will undertake remedial line works between Portlaoise and Ballybrophy overnight this week. It follows the suspension of services for a time on Thursday, September 5 over fears of subsidence adjacent to the line.

Iarnród Éireann crews were dispatched and an investigation was carried out.

Providing an update to Leinster Express/Laois Live a spokesperson said: "Upon investigation, there was no subsidence – as we will always put safety first, we asked a maintenance team to attend, who advised that there was a minor track bed issue over a short distance.

"Services resumed at reduced speed, and we will undertake remedial line works with a tamping machine (which compacts the stone known as ballast on the track) overnight this week."
