Laois SPCA appeals to public following a sudden loss of food supplies

The charity have asked the public to donate food, wool or containers if possible

Laois SPCA reach record capacity, temporarily close admissions

The Laois Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Laois SPCA) have appealed to the public for donations of food and wool.

The charity have announced that their food supply for animals has been invaded by mice, leaving the group in short supply.

"Our food storage unfortunately has been invaded by mice and they have been eating through of our bags and boxes of food," the charity have said.

"We are currently using buckets and bins but these are not keeping the rodents out and we were hoping that maybe people had spare, unwanted or unused cabinets that we could have. We could store our food and not have to worry about the rodents getting in and eating through the bags and in a lot of cases causing our dry food in particular to go stale," they said.
"We just hate having any waste when it comes to food!".
The charity have also asked that anyone with wool to spare, donate towards their traps.

"We are finding wool from @butternutbox.ie or @fetchyourpetneeds extremely useful especially for our trap, neuter release jobs during the winter. and for traps that we need to leave overnight," they said.
"If you receive this wool with your deliveries and have no use for it please consider donating it to us."

The 'trap, neuter, release' (TNR) method used by Laois SPCA focuses on humanely trapping wild cats to calmly transport them for neutering. Once the cats have recovered from the surgery, they are then either adopted or released.

You can read more about the TNR method here.
