Portlaoise hospital imposes restrictions due to high number of flu and Covid-19 cases

Restrictions are being introduced immediately and will be kept under review

Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise

The Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise has introduced visiting restrictions due to a high number of patients with respiratory viral illness including flu and Covid-19. 


The hospital said the restrictions are being introduced immediately to reduce the spread of infection. 


"These restrictions include only one visitor allowed per patient during visiting hours. These measures will be kept under review. Certain exceptions will be made by contacting ward staff in advance. For up-to-date guidelines on visiting patients, please visit: https://www2.hse.ie/services/disruptions/," said hospital management. 


 "The Hospital would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank the public for their understanding and consideration.


"Where possible, the management at Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise is asking patients with non-emergency conditions to seek assistance from other parts of the health service.


"There are a range of care pathways available to patients who do not need emergency care including:  Visit your pharmacy for advice on common minor illnesses. Out of Hours Urgent GP Services
MIDOC is an appointment only GP service located in the Laois, Longford, Offaly and Westmeath areas. Emergency Departments treat seriously ill patients. Visit an ED or call 999 or 112 if someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk. Those with less severe injuries and symptoms will have to wait to be seen in the Emergency Department.
