Portlaoise Main Street was closed for a time on Saturday, January 4 as emergency services dealt with an electrical fault. The Fire Service attended the scene and a cordon was placed around the affected area. It is understood a main wire that provides power to a number of businesses on main street was affected when a fuse blew. The Leinster Express/ Laois Live has contacted the ESB and Fire Fervice for comment.

Pictures taken by Laois Weather show the Fire Service working on main street outside the library.
