A public meeting organised to re-establish a meals on wheels service for Portlaoise has been postponed due to Storm Éowyn.
The meeting was due to take place in the parish centre on Thursday, January 23 at 7.30pm.
"This evening’s public meeting in the Parish Centre, Portlaoise at 7.30pm to address the absence of a meals on wheels service in Portlaoise town has been postponed due to the upcoming Red Weather Alert. We will revert with a rescheduled date and time. Please ensure you all stay safe," said the organisers.
An invitation had been extended to prospective volunteers, local councillors, TDs, Laois Partnership, local voluntary groups and anyone who feels they could assist in getting the vital service back up and running in Portlaoise. The Meals and Wheels service provides warm meals for the elderly and vulnerable who might otherwise go without in Portlaoise. It ceased operating in Portlaoise in June of 2023, leaving between 25 and 27 service users without an alternative.
