Laois Alcoholics Anonymous to hold open meeting for struggling families

A Laois Alcoholics Anonymous group will hold an open meeting this month.

Portlaoise First Things First Group of Alcoholics Anonymous will hold the open meeting for people who believe their loved ones may be struggling with alcoholism, or for those who struggle themselves.

With free entry, the open meeting will take place on January 31 at 8pm.

"The open meeting is for people who may think that someone in their family is struggling with alcohol, or for people wondering if they might themselves," an organiser told the Leinster Express / Laois Live.

"The meeting is for people to see what kind of supports are available, we welcome everyone along," they said.

The Portlaoise group regularly meet on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 8:30pm.

Members of Alanon and AA will speak at the open night.

“Are you or is someone you know struggling with alcohol? Come along to see what supports we have to offer,” the group said.

Portlaoise First Things First Group of Alcoholic Anonymous are one of seven Alcoholics Anonymous groups established in Laois, with groups available in Rathdowney, Portarlington, Portlaoise, Mountmellick, Abbeyleix and Killeshin.

The open meeting will take place at Holly's room, Clonminam Industrial Estate, Portlaoise  R32 R624 on Friday January 31 at 8pm.
