The 2025 Daffodil Day collection for the Irish Cancer Society in Portlaoise was a huge success with almost €30,000 raised locally.
The total amount was just over €29,000, significantly more than last year's amount of €20,000. There were over 100 volunteer collectors in a dozen locations around Portlaoise, mostly at retail premises. Some local businesses also supported the cause by holding staff events and collecting donations in-house.
There was a well-supported coffee morning at the Heath Golf Club and the Holy Family schools had a popular bake sale event for pupils, staff, families and guests. Many of the volunteers sign up year after year and new volunteers are always welcome. The Scoil Chríost Rí TY class usually gets involved and are very helpful on the day, preparing fresh daffodils and delivering buckets of bunches.

"So many people have either had cancer themselves, or know someone who has been diagnosed. Because of this, volunteers are committed to the cause and donors are very generous," said the Portlaoise Daffodil Day Committee.
"The funds gathered in Laois support cancer patients in Laois with vital services such as Night Nursing and Patient Transport. Thanks again to everyone who made this happen."
