Laois County Council is to install drains at Clonkeen Portlaoise, to stop rainwater flowing off the road into residents’ gardens.

Cllr Caroline Dwane Stanley requested the work in a motion to the March meeting of Portlaoise Municipal District.

“There are two hills where water is coming down into residences. In one it’s ponding. The owners made little gullies but when it rains heavy its only coming one way, in on their properties. One put in a big soakhole,” she said.
