WATCH: Portlaoise shines at Darkness into Light event

There was a great turnout for Portlaoise's Darkness Into Light event on Saturday, May 10 in aid of supports for those affected by suicide or self-harm.
Crowds set off from the Irish Prison Service College on the Dublin Road embracing the beautiful sunrise. The Prison Service released footage of the event which was held to raise funds for Pieta House.

"In 2023 the Irish Prison Service became the first public or private employer to be awarded the prestigious Amber Flag by Pieta. Ending Suicide. Beginning Hope. This recognition highlights the Service’s unwavering commitment to fostering mental well-being and creating inclusive and supportive environments within its organisation. These flags still fly proudly outside all of our facilities," said a spokesperson for the Prison Service. 
 "Around the country earlier this morning our staff, along with members of the public, opened our facilities to host Darkness into Light walks. The largest of which was in Portlaoise where staff from Portlaoise & Midlands Prisons and our training college hosted the Portlaoise DIL walk.
"Well done to all involved and thank you to our community partners ESB Networks An Garda Síochána Laois/Offaly."
