A landmark 19th century Georgian house in the heart of Portlaoise has hit the market with a price tag of €850,000.  The two-storey over basement semi-detached building was built around 1810 and with 12 bedrooms and five bathrooms it offers a unique blend of residential and commercial potential, along with a detached two-bedroom residence located to the rear. According to the National Built Heritage Service the Laois property was built following the completion of St. Peter's Church around 1805 on a new site west of Market Square.

"These houses with generous gardens and mews reflect early nineteenth-century prosperity and formal planning on the road before the arrival of the railway. An attractive and well-proportioned terrace of houses which retain most of their early form and fabric. The terrace lends a decorous presence to this section of the Coote Road and makes a positive contribution to the streetscape," the service states.

The selling agents of 1 Coote Terrace, Coote Street are Peavoy Auctioneers who say the property represents "a rare opportunity to acquire a high-profile building with immense flexibility and appeal."

They said a substantial bonus is the self-contained 2-bedroom residence at the rear — ideal for rental income, guest accommodation, or private use.

"With numerous different options available either a business in the basement with residence above or a massive office building with residence to rear."
