Cobbled footpaths 'look lovely" but they are causing a trip hazard in a Laois housing estate.
Laois County Council has agreed to a request to carry out repairs at "priority locations" in The Downs housing estate on the Stradbally road in Portlaoise.
Fine Gael Cllr Paddy Buggy, Cathaoirleach of Portlaoise Municipal District, had requested the work, in a motion tabled to the May meeting.
"Cobble or brick looks lovely and nice when it's new. It's a nightmare, it gets loose and people can trip. We should look at this going forward, if we allow them," he suggests.
Fianna Fáil Cllr Catherine Fitzgerald seconded his motion.

"Cobbles can be very dangerous. People can stick their toe in them and trip," she said.
In reply, the district's engineer Wes Wilkinson said his office will carry out repairs at priority locations in the estate.
