Nobody was hurt in a "severe" fire that hit three houses in Laois last weekend, Laois County Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed.
The fire broke out on Friday evening, July 4, at a house in the Monks Bridge section of Maryborough Village, off the Mountrath Road in Portlaoise. Smoke had filled the sky over Portlaoise from the blaze.
The emergency call came in at 7.05pm, Assistant Chief Fire Officer Anthony Tynan told the Leinster Express / Laois Live.
He described the fire as "severe".

He said that everybody escaped unharmed from the houses, and no person was injured.
The origin of the fire is not confirmed. Two houses were badly damaged in a row of four terraced homes.
"Portlaoise and Mountrath crews responded and contained the spread to the rest of the terraced row," Assistant CFO Tynan said.
