Laois IPSC (Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign) recently held a coffee morning in Portlaoise in aid of GAA Palestine, which the group have hailed as a resounding success.

"The event drew a fantastic crowd, with supporters of all ages gathering to enjoy a cuppa, conversation, and an array of delicious homemade treats — many of which were kindly donated by attendees themselves," a group member said.

"The spirit of community and solidarity was palpable throughout the morning."

A total of €522.77 was raised on the day, which will go directly to GAA Palestine.

"Thanks to the incredible support and generosity of all who attended, these funds will support their efforts to foster Irish sports, wellbeing, and community among young people in Palestine," Laois IPSC has said.

In addition, organisers highlighted that the GAA Palestine team — 33 children and 14 mentors from the West Bank — are due to arrive in Ireland next Saturday, July 18, for a two-week tour.

However, The group has been informed by the Irish Immigration Service that their visa applications have been refused due to “insufficient documentation”.

Laois IPSC is urgently calling on all local and national government officials to intercede and ensure this vital tour can go ahead.

"These children have been eagerly awaiting this opportunity, training every week despite the challenges of crossing strict military checkpoints, and the community hopes Ireland will welcome them as planned," Laois IPSC argued.

Organisers expressed their gratitude to everyone who helped make the coffee morning such a success — from those who baked and donated, to those who came along to support the cause.

"We are so proud of our community for coming out in such numbers and for showing such kindness and solidarity," organisers said.

"Every euro raised will help to make a real difference on the ground in Palestine."
