A Laois family has set a date for their skydive fundraiser in memory of their late father.
Portlaoise man Anthony Walsh sadly passed away following a stroke in December of 2023, leaving behind his wife Irene and three children Ellen, Laura and Tony.
His family will take to the skies on August 8 to raise funds for the Portlaoise ambulance service and Tallaght hospital's Stroke Unit.
Laura Walsh spoke to the Leinster Express / Laois Live ahead of their upcoming dive.
"We’re definitely nervous but excited to be taking to the skies, Ellen might be the most nervous, to be fair!" Ms Walsh laughed.

"But we’re doing it together, and that makes it a bit less scary. We are especially delighted to share that the money will go towards funding specialised wheelchairs for the stroke unit in Tallaght Hospital and necessitates for Portlaoise ambulance service, which feels like such a meaningful way to give back," she said.
The family say that they have been completely blown away by the support they have received from locals. They have already amassed almost €16,000 of their €20,000 target.
"We could have never expected to raise over €15,700. It’s just unbelievable," Ms Walsh said.
"People have been so generous, not just with donations, but with their messages, shares, and constant encouragement.
"It’s been really emotional seeing how many people have rallied around us. The kindness we’ve felt from friends, family, neighbours, and even people we don’t personally know has made us feel incredibly supported and proud to be part of this community.
"We just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who’s supported us so far, it honestly means so much."
The Walsh family will be keeping the fundraiser open to donations until August 8, the day of the skydive.
"There’s still time for anyone who wants to get involved," Ms Walsh highlighted.

"We miss him every single day, and this skydive feels like something he would’ve absolutely laughed at us for doing, but deep down, we know he would be so proud.
"The amazing response we’ve had, and every single donation, is really a testament to his character and the impact he had on so many people. We’re doing this for Dad," she finished.
