A Laois entrepreneur has made it to the final of Miss/Mrs Africa Ireland 2025.

Portlaoise woman Leah Vanessa Mxotshwa will represent Laois in the final on August 30 in Johnstown, Dublin.

Speaking to the Leinster Express / Laois Live, Ms Mxotshwa has said that this pageant means more than just beauty and glamour.

"My reason for entering was to inspire women who have been through silent battles," she explained.

"Whether it is heartbreak, single motherhood, or fighting for your health, I have been through the same journey. I want to show women that beauty and strength can rise from these moments," Ms Mxotshwa shared.

"I want to help redefine beauty standards and celebrate African culture, and to show young women that they can be elegant, empowered and unstoppable, no matter what challenge they have been through."

Originally from Zimbabwe, the 28 year old mother of two works in beauty therapy, with successful nails, lashes and hair businesses.

Along with modelling and pursuing a music career in her free time, the entrepreneur has recently launched her own gym wear brand, 'NesFit', with clothing tailored to all body types.

As if motherhood and her businesses aren't enough, Ms Mxotshwa is also a musician, having released original Gospel music on Youtube.

"Most of my songs are in my mother language, Shona. I have been very busy with my music, my businesses and motherhood!" she laughed.

Ms Mxotshwa has said that her family and friends have been immensely supportive along this journey.

"My family and friends have been amazing, my Mum, sister and brother have been my number one supporters," she said.

"They have been there for me through so many things. My Mum's friends and the people in our church have been so supportive, it has been amazing."

The business woman has said that the competition has been a fantastic chance to meet likeminded women and make new friends.

"We have been attending bootcamps, it has been so great. We have all connected, it has been amazing to have something like this for myself outside of motherhood," she praised.

To take part in this year's final, the Portlaoise woman needs to raise money to cover her entry fees, wardrobe, training and event appearances. She has launched a GoFundMe to help reach her €2,600 goal.

"Every euro donated brings me one step closer to representing our community and using this platform to inspire other women to chase their dreams, no matter their struggles," she said.

"Your support—whether through a donation or by sharing this campaign—means the world to me. As a thank-you, I’ll be sharing regular updates on my preparation and journey, and giving special shout-outs to my amazing supporters on social media," Ms Mxotshwa highlighted.

"Let’s show Ireland and the world the strength, resilience, and beauty of our community! Thank you for believing in me and helping me make this dream a reality," she finished.
