ESB Networks says they will have additional capacity in Portlaoise and the wider area in the coming months.
They revealed work is progressing in the town when asked by the Leinster Express/Laois Live about the Sand Wood estate in Portlaoise where up to 80 families are waiting for connections.
“ESB Networks are actively working with the developer to enable the connection to the Sand Wood housing development.
Our staff have visited site recently and once we receive confirmation that the development civil works have been completed, we will begin the work to connect the houses to the electricity network,” an ESB spokesperson stated.
They said there are several significant infrastructure projects ongoing and planned for the wider Portlaoise area.
“One such project is the transformer upgrade project in the Portlaoise 110 kV station. Once complete, this will add significant additional capacity to Portlaoise and the surrounding areas.
The first phase of this project will be complete in August, with an end of year timeline for overall completion,” the spokesperson said.
It comes as Laois County Council Chief Executive Michael Rainey confirmed there was an issue with the electrical grid capacity at the monthly meeting of Laois County Council on Monday.
